Fulacht Fia with unusual work area in Carrigaline, Cork

A very large Fulacht Fia or cooking area discovered on a site in Carrigaline Co. Cork revealed an unusual “work area” beside a more conventional wood-lined trough. The work area was about the size of a double bed and was lined with wide flat planks and edged with a lip of timbers – perhaps to act as a retaining edge for the flat work area. From first analysis the site would appear to be Early Bronze Age.
